The initial consultation is free of charge.

This consult takes less than 10 mins and involves obtaining a medical history and asking you what you hope to achieve. Clinical photographic records are obtained.

You are then informed of the realistic outcomes of your proposed treatment.

The consult is followed by a cooling off period of seven days.

The cooling off period allows you,

• An opportunity to think about things.
• Gives you a chance to ask questions that you may have after the initial consultation.
• Ensures that you are fully informed re the proposed Botox treatment.

If after this cooling off period you are happy to proceed, a treatment appointment is arranged.

Anti wrinkle treatment injections are used to ease and smooth out the appearance of wrinkle and frown lines, forehead furrows, crow’s feet, lip (smoker) lines, down-turned mouths and dimple chins, by relaxing the facial muscles that cause them. It can also be used for preventing excessive perspiration in underarms and hands.

BOTOX®, a registered trade mark of a company called Allergan Inc, is a purified form of botulinum toxin A.BOTOX® is produced in Co.Mayo. Botulinum toxin is a poison produced by certain kinds of bacteria and causes botulism. Although Anti wrinkle treatment is a toxin, it is used in doses much smaller that those that can cause harm to the body. For cosmetic use a very small amount is injected into facial muscles that are hyperactive. Hyperactive muscles cause the overlying facial skin to crumple causing wrinkles. Anti wrinkle treatment works by blocking nerve transmission to the muscles under the skin. The muscle then relaxes. The skin covering the muscle is smoothed and the facial wrinkles diminish. The effects are not permanent but should last for around 3-6 months; the effect gradually fades as muscle action returns.

Anti wrinkle treatment reversibly paralyses muscles. Anti wrinkle treatment injections involve a series of small injections in order to temporarily relax certain facial muscles, thus having a cosmetic effect by smoothing certain facial wrinkles (“Crow’s feet” and other lines of expression).

Weakening of the injected muscles begins to be apparent after 2-3 days with the peak effect being reached after 7 days. Results can last 3-6 months,at which time re treatment is necessary to gain a similar muscle relaxant effect.

Good results may be obtained after a single session. Occasionally, “touch-up” injections may be required for full effect.

Most people find that injections only cause mild swelling; it usually subsides within 48 hrs.

The aim of Anti wrinkle treatment is for an improvement, not perfection. Anti wrinkle treatment will not improve static facial lines due to skin thinning and other types of treatment may be required.
Anti wrinkle treatment is licensed for cosmetic use in several countries, but not in Ireland.
